SALAM Executive Director Abdul-Qawiy

Some 35 years ago a vision became reality in the Sacramento region.  The Sacramento Area League of Associated Muslims (SALAM) mosque began in Sacramento.  It was the dream of Dr. Metwali Amer and his wife, Professor Rosalie Amer.  It has served as a beacon for learning, worship, and social assembly ever since.  Join us this month as we interview Abdul-Qawiy Abdul Karim, the executive director of SALAM in his first year at SALAM.  In this delightful and sacred conversation, we get to know him.

Darshana Exhibit – Viewing the Sacred

Rachel has the opportunity to talk to Dr. Bijay Nair, a Sacramento region Coordinator for the Darshana Hindu exhibit. This exhibit consists of twenty-four panels designed to give a sacred glimpse into the Hindu civilization and faith. We will learn of the exhibit’s travel throughout the United States, and it’s scheduled visit on November 5 to Spiritual Life Center.

Zoroastrianism – The Foretelling of Christianity

July features an in-depth conversation with Greg Voelm, noted historian and best-selling author. He has appeared in the New York Times and has lectured at Berkeley, The University of San Francisco, and the University of California, Davis. Greg gave a presentation to the Men of Spirit group at Spiritual Life Center on Zoroastrianism, a little-known 4,000 year-old faith tradition which was the foretelling of Christianity.

Zoroastrianism is one of the oldest faith traditions on Earth – and yet little is known about it.  We explore this faith tradition’s dual cosmology of good and evil.  Many of the concepts from the Zoroastrian faith were adopted by the Abrahamic religions.  The three wise men- call Maji - were Zoroastrian Priests on a journey to honor Jesus and the birth of Christianity.
